The High-D Boys Press Kit

1. Band Biography

Who are we? Well, our moms say we’re handsome, and who are we to argue?

The High-D Boys stumbled out of Victorville, California (yes, people actually live there) in 2010, starting as a ukulele jazz duo because, let’s face it, two ukuleles are better than one. The founding members thought, “Why not make music even cooler?” So they did—by adding more instruments, more voices, and some questionable dance moves.

Over the years, we’ve evolved (some say devolved) into a ragtag ensemble of multi-instrumentalists who can’t decide on a genre—so we play them all! We perform cover songs as well as originals, but not just any covers—we put our own spin on them with barbershop-style harmonies, eclectic instrumentation, and a whole lot of fun. Think of us as the musical equivalent of a surprise party: you never know what you’re going to get, but it’s guaranteed to be a blast!

From classic rock to country, jazz to pop, we cover more ground than a Roomba in a mansion. Depending on the day, the wind direction, and whether Mercury is in retrograde, we’re anywhere from a 3 to 7-piece band. But hey, size doesn’t matter when you’re having fun!

Band Member Profiles

Robert K. Blomker II

Lead Vocals, Ukulele Virtuoso, Melodica Maestro, Train Whistle Enthusiast, and Chief Enthusiasm Officer

Robert K. Blomker II is the heartbeat of the band and possibly the reason the term “frontman” was invented. With a ukulele in hand, he turns tiny strings into colossal soundwaves that get everyone tapping their feet and wondering how such a small instrument can produce such big vibes. His ukulele skills are so impressive that even guitars feel a bit jealous. Robert doesn’t just play the ukulele; he makes it sing, laugh, and occasionally tell bad jokes. When he’s not charming audiences with his vocal prowess and ukulele mastery, he’s revolutionizing the music world one melodica solo at a time. Yes, you read that right—the melodica. But let’s be honest, the ukulele is his true love. His secret weapon? A train whistle that he wields with the precision of a maestro and the timing of a seasoned comedian. Robert’s infectious energy is so potent that scientists are considering bottling it as an alternative energy source.

Phil Clevinger

Vocals, Wash Tub Bass (yes, that’s a thing), Trumpet, Trombone, Sousaphone, Booking Manager, and Multi-Brass Magician

Phil is the Swiss Army knife of the band—if Swiss Army knives could play every brass instrument known to man. As the band’s booking manager, Phil uses his connections and savvy to keep us performing at the best (and sometimes the most questionable) venues. With a musical résumé longer than a CVS receipt, including stints with Phat Cat Swinger and Louis Prima Jr., Phil brings a level of professionalism that the rest of us aspire to—someday. He’s the backbone of our harmonies and the brain behind our bookings (we’d be lost without his GPS). Phil can switch from a soulful trumpet solo to thumping away on his wash tub bass faster than you can say “Is that a sousaphone?” His ability to juggle multiple instruments and keep us all in line is nothing short of miraculous—some suspect he may actually be a wizard.

Dan Reyes

Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Six-String Sorcerer, King of One-Liners, and Heaven-Sent Virtuoso

Dan Reyes isn’t just any guitarist; he’s a heaven-sent virtuoso whose talents defy earthly explanation. His fingers dance across the fretboard, delivering solos so heavenly they make angels weep. With a voice that’s both soulful and uplifting, Dan elevates every song to new heights. Off the stage, his sharp wit and hilarious one-liners keep us—and the audience—in stitches. He’s the perfect blend of serious talent and spontaneous humor, proving you can shred and jest simultaneously. Some say he’s the glue that holds the band together; we say he’s the superglue that keeps us all from floating away.

Mike Kelly

Banjo and Guitar Virtuoso, Songwriting Genius, and All-Around Musical Maestro

Mike is not just a musician; he’s a one-man musical phenomenon. With fingers that move faster than a caffeinated cheetah, he can make a banjo sing, a guitar weep, and an audience go wild—all in the same song. He’s the creative force behind original hits like “Practical Lover” and “Stop While You’re Ahead,” which have been described as “life-changing” by at least three people who aren’t even related to him. Mike’s ability to weave intricate melodies with jaw-dropping solos leaves us questioning whether he’s human or some sort of stringed-instrument demigod. We’re just happy to have him on our side—and slightly worried he might get abducted by aliens looking for superior talent.

James Peck

Vocals, Mandolin Maestro, Occasional Guitarist, and Master of Mischief

James is our resident mischief-maker, always ready with a cheeky grin and a clever quip. As our mandolin maestro, he brings a touch of folk, a sprinkle of bluegrass, and a whole lot of personality to the mix. His mandolin playing is so captivating that even the ukuleles and guitars get a bit envious, but don’t be surprised if you catch him strumming a guitar from time to time—just to keep things interesting. James’s voice has a unique quality that’s… well, let’s just say it’s unforgettable. He brings a certain je ne sais quoi to the band—a French term we use because we can’t quite describe his knack for playful antics and keeping everyone on their toes. Whether he’s pulling a harmless prank or injecting humor into a rehearsal, James ensures there’s never a dull moment with the High-D Boys.

Jacob Olsen

Cajon Drum, Groove Guru, and Snack Connoisseur

Jacob Olsen is the rhythmic foundation of the band, the glue that holds our musical madness together. His skills on the cajon drum add an earthy depth to our sound, and his sense of rhythm is so impeccable that metronomes check with him to make sure they’re on beat. Offstage, Jacob is our resident snack provider, always ready with a granola bar or a witty quip. He’s the kind of guy who brings balance to the group—both musically and calorically.

Sam Prince

Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Solo Artist Extraordinaire, and Carrier of Heavy Things

Joining us in 2024, Sam Prince brings with him a wealth of solo experience and a hit song under his belt. When he’s not gracing our stage, he’s captivating audiences with his own music, including his chart-topping single “Cold Snacks,” performed at the Red Barn Opry in 2024. The song is a soulful exploration of love, life, and the undeniable importance of keeping your beverages chilled. With a voice that could make a mountain weep and guitar skills that remind us we’re not getting any younger, Sam adds a layer of depth and professionalism that elevates the entire band. He’s eager, talented, and only slightly annoyed by the fact that we still make him carry the gear. Until he collects enough seniority—or writes another hit—Sam fetches the coffee and occasionally gets to play a solo if Mike is feeling generous.

10. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Do you guys really play all those instruments?
A: We sure hold them and make sounds come out! Mike, Dan, and Phil make magic happen. Robert’s ukulele is the stuff of legends, and James occasionally picks up a guitar when his mandolin needs a break.

  • Q: Can I book you for a quiet, intimate gathering?
A: Only if your neighbors are okay with spontaneous sing-alongs, Phil’s sousaphone solos, and Robert’s ukulele performances that might inspire impromptu dance-offs.

  • Q: How many of you will show up to perform?
A: Anywhere from 3 to 7, depending on availability, planetary alignment, and whether Jacob’s snack stash is adequately stocked.

  • Q: What’s with the name “High-D Boys”?
A: What started out as “High Desert Boys” quickly changed—much like our setlists when someone shouts out a song request we can’t resist. We realized that “High-D Boys” had a certain mysterious ring to it, and let’s be honest, it’s easier to fit on a marquee. Plus, it leaves room for interpretation—the “D” can stand for anything you like: “Dynamic,” “Delightful,” or even “Donuts” (looking at you, Jacob). The name evolved just as we have, capturing the essence of our unpredictable and entertaining nature.
